New BMW Mid-Engined Z10 Sports Cars
BMW M1 Concept (2008)

Audi's R8, for example, or Porsche's 911 Carrera exhibit a more sensible balance toward peformance and luxury than, say a Lamborghini Murcielago or even a Dodge Viper SRT10. With 420 horsepower from a naturally aspirated V-8 engine, the R8 is a mid-engined sports car with good, but not amazing, power, it handles brilliantly, and it doesn't break the bank. It's balanced.
So talk of the BMW Z10 sporting a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine makes a very enticing sort of sense. The latest rumors of the car, which pitch it as a mid-engined sports car with 450 horsepower and about 350 pound-feet of torque, also make it plain that it has no pretensions of chasing down the wildest and wickedest in the supercar arena.
That's a perspective that shows a longer view of things, with the days of completely unrestrained works of automotive engineering stretching toward dusk. Gordon Murray, legendary engineer and designer of the McLaren F1, recently voiced his thoughts on the matter, concluding that the future of the high-performance car must also be a green one.
So the Z10's rumored relatively lightweight design goal--considering modern safety requirements--at 3,300 pounds, making use of aluminum, carbon fiber and other composites, makes a lot of sense. As does the choice of a small-displacement, forced-induction engine. The dual-clutch transmission is almost de rigeuer for any sporting vehicle these days, but also lends more efficiency than a standard automatic.
Taken in light of the upcoming Vision EfficientDynamics concept as well, the Z10 design parameters could end up being even greener, though integrating a large amount of EfficientDynamics technology, particularly cutting-edge features, could prove too costly for production. BMW is thought to be targeting a similar price point to the standard Audi R8, at around $110,000.
The Z10's aesthetic design cues are likely to borrow from the M1 Homage concept (pictured), as well as from the Vision EfficientDynamics concept coming to Frankfurt next week, though it will also doubtless be grounded firmly in BMW's latest corporate face as well. An aggressive "face", with a strong kidney grille, slanted headlights, big air ducts and strong character lines along the sides will reflect the car's performance-focused nature.
Honda lines up CR-Z Concept for Tokyo car
The eyes of the bulk of the motoring world may have been focused on Frankfurt in September, but Japanese manufacturers appear to have targeted Tokyo for a series of significant new concepts.
Honda is the latest name on the list – it will reveal the CR-Z Concept 2009, the most recent prototype of a compact sports car using Honda’s IMA technology, at the show. The first version of the CR-Z appeared in Tokyo back in 2007 and now the aim is to put the vehicle on sale by 2010 when it will be the first series-produced sports hybrid car from a major manufacturer. It will also be the first petrol-electric vehicle to use a six-speed manual transmission.
Two more Honda concepts will also make their debut at the event.
Firstly, the EV-N battery electric vehicle, which is inspired by the N360 micro car that was launched in the 1960s, will make an appearance. This small, four-seat car includes solar panels on the roof that can be used to charge the on-board battery.
Also making its debut will be the Skydeck concept – a six-seat hybrid MPV. Still a design study, Honda hopes to position the vehicle as an example of how IMA technology can be placed in a number of different cars to fulfil different needs.
Honda will have plenty of other exciting green vehicles on display at the show including the FCX Clarity, its fuel cell electric vehicle; a new EV-Cub electric motorcycle; and the new U3-X, a one-wheel personal mobility deviceWednesday, December 23, 2009
The Sports cars of the future
Several car makers are showing the world that it is possible to produce high-powered sports cars with clean-drive alternative power concepts and that motorists can combine an eco-conscience with all the fun that comes with a sports car.
Arguably the centre of attraction at the Frankfurt Show was the all-red Audi E-Tron concept based on the R8 sports car. The design and performance figures leave no doubt that it belongs to the top sports car league.
The lithium-ion battery unit, that provides a range of 248 kilometres, is positioned directly behind the passenger cabin for an optimal centre of gravity and axle load distribution. Four motors — two each at the front and rear axles — drive the wheels, producing a total of 230 kW/313 hp. The two-seater accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and from 60 to 120 km/h in 4.1 seconds.
A lot of work still needs to be done before the car is ready for volume production. Audi of America president Johan de Nysschen said a production-ready model won’t be ready until at least 2012.
Not to be outdone, Mercedes Benz spread the word that its new gullwing SLS super car would probably be available in an electric version by the year 2014. The head of Mercedes sports car division AMG, Volker Mornhinweg, said the EV version would be no compromise regarding performance and super sports car qualities.
The EV SLS is planned with four hub motors producing a combined output of 392 kW/532 hp fed by a lithium-ion battery pack running down the centre of the underbody. Mercedes claims that it would accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in four seconds.
2010 Mazda Cars
2010 Mazda RX7 car
we all heard rumors about a new 2010 Mazda RX7 being produce by Mazda, those RX7 lovers out there must be shaking with excitement, but still the question is will Mazda really release an improved RX7 or not? the answer is uncertain, base on a magazine interview on Mazda they say that they are definitely going to release a new revised rotary engine with more power and much more economy friendly in the early 2010, but they did not mention that the car would be a 2010 Mazda RX7, so it's really still uncertain to what car Mazda is planning to equip this new engine with, but if it is an all new RX7, Mazda 's really going to see a big impact on the market. What
we expect if it is a 2010 Mazda RX7, if it is then this car obviously won't be a luxury sports type, it would definitely be like its old self which is a mid price sports car that is ready to be modified and dragged, the 2010 Mazda RX7 will likely have a 18 inch wheels, rear spoilers, lower body kits, a firm competition suspensions, big disc brakes with ABS, traction control, definitely a 6 speed manual transmission and an optional 6 speed automatic with semi automatic transmission and it would be a rear wheel drive with a long-hood short deck proportion, and with an sporty nose.
They say the 2010 Mazda RX7 would be a rotary Hybrid, which makes a bit sense since their planning to make this new engine more economy friendly, but I prefer they don't make it a hybrid because this type of car usually are expensive there are other ways in making it an earth friendly car like equipping it with an equal or smaller engine but turbocharged. which would result in the same power but lower emission. 2010 Mazda RX7 car would probably look like those pictures shown.
